Apart from London, what other smaller cities could an Accountant find work in?

I'm an Aussie and would work/holiday England sometime...I am not to interested in London, but would like to work in a smaller city (smaller again then say Liverpool, Manchester and Birmingham).

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Accountancy is a great profession to give you mobile work options as it's a skill generally in demand worldwide.

Firstly, regarding the big cities, you have to remember that in reality each of them is actually made up of many suburbs and the actual city part itself is pretty small, that's true of London, but also Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham and the other major cities. You may find that living and working in one of the suburbs is actually quite nice, and still you have access to the city for things like theatre, fine dining and the best shopping. One example of this would be the suburb of 'four oaks' near to Birmingham, it's a pleasant, green and leafy suburb, nothing like Birmingham itself, but still close by for when you need the city.

If you really want to be away from the larger cities completely, you have two main choices

1) Stay central in the country to make visiting other locations easy, in which case large towns like Warwick, Oxford, Cambridge, Cheltenham are all very nice and have good work opportunities.

2) If visiting other locations is not a priority for you and you really want to be based somewhere nice, then probably a coastal location is best, for example Brighton, Exeter, Barnstaple or other south coast towns are all good options...
