Why is it so hard to find work these days?

I have been out of work for almost a year (about 3 months due to the birth of my daugher) and I cannot find a job to get back into the workforce. I have been looking and apply for positions 6 days a week, at least 3 hours a day for the past 5 months and still nothing. I have been getting interviews lately but no offers. In the past, I had no problem finding work. The real question here is why is it so much different now than in the past? I have a bachelors degree and have been told that I have too much education or experience to start an entry level job. I have applied for higher level positions and been told I do not have enough experience. I understand companies do not want to waste money on training someone who will end up leaving them for a better position but what happens to those people in the meantime? Everyone has to pay their bills, have a place to live and eat. I am applying on monster, careerbuilder, looking in 5 newspapers and applying to large companies directly.

Why is it so hard to find work these days?
Don't feel bad I have been having the same problems. I've been looking for a job for almost a year now and have numerous interviews for office jobs that I have more then 10 years experience in and still haven't received a job. Many employers say that they are getting a lot of people applying just for one job so I think that the chance of getting a job these days is very hard. It is getting very discouraging and some times I feel like I'm wasting my time going on these interviews as some employers are really being very picky. If they'd just give us a chance. The thing that makes me mad is that most of the interviews I've had the employer does not let you know if you didn't get the job. That is soo RUDE!!! I hope that one of these interviews for you and I pan out one of these days. Unemployment is low but it sure seems that a lot of people are looking for positions.
Reply:I think that the population has a little bit to do with it. You know, the more people there are, the more people applying for the job.

Had the same problem a few years ago, so I got really ambitious and started going to businesses and handing my resume personally. Got some good response and finally a job.

Good Luck
Reply:I feel your pain! Been there done that when I retired from the Navy. I believe their are several reasons all kind of linked to each other. We are experience a "time" covering 3 generational profiles. Baby-boomers, Gen X, and Gen Y, which all have different work ethics, perceptions about what they are entitled to, and what a starting position should pay as well as what level that starting position is.

Also the State/Fed laws and taxes about what employers "Have" to provide and pay severely stress many new businesses. Even some of the larger businesses feel the impact. Insurances, Paid time off , Relocation, Background checks, Advancement, etc, etc all cost money. And the point of having a bussiness is to make money...but the pie slices keep getting smaller.

Also we have folks who I wont profile, that will work longer for less pay. As well as elderly/semi retired folks who will work part time vice a full time position. Doesn't that make better sence in the numbers crunch?

These and other factors like the fear of "Over Qualified" folks getting a better paying job somewhere else later...teehee or replacing the person they work for have made finding the perfect job an impossible dream. (Most of the time) I don't believe there is one group, part of society's evolution, or governments to blame, but a combination of them all.

Just to let ya know how frustrated I was when I retired and spent the 3-4 months job hunting...I served the country for 20 years in th U.S. Navy and had many places I applied tell me I was not bilingual, so no hire! In my own country! Now I have been to 23 countrys and 14 states and enjoy all cultures and thier histories...but the last time I looked this country's language was English.

Hense, you become what they fear! Take whatever job will have you, so you can pay some bills. Meanwhile you are still applying for a better one that your over-qualified for.
Reply:Because of all the illegal immigrants from mexico
Reply:The problem is now there are so many people looking for jobs, so employers can be more picky about who they hire. They have such a huge pool of qualified candidates, so you're competing against a much larger number than before. Try working with an employment agency. They can help by representing you to a potential employer, and even if you end up getting a job on your own rather than through the agency, they can be a great help in improving your interviewing skills and your resume. If you get an offer for a temp job, make sure they understand you're looking for a "permanent" job, then take it. It's true that it's much easier to find a job when you're employed, even if it's just temporary.

Good luck!
Reply:Because employers are cheap buttheads.

Ceiling fan diagnostics. How do I find out if my fan motor is working ok. Lights on bottom of fan work. help!
Do you have two switches, one for the lights and one for the fan? It sounds like you did not connect the wire from the switch to the fan. If you have seperate switches, the supply probably comes to the light switch and then a jumper is installed from the supply side of that switch to the fan switch. Check that out.. Maybe you just pulled the chain switch on the fan and turned it off? The fan motor did not go bad just setting there and since you did work in the box where the switches are..........There is where the problem is. One other thing, be sure that the jumper from the light switch to the fan switch is on the supply side. If you have it on the wrong terminal the fan will work when the lights are on but not indepenently.
Reply:Check to determine if you have power to and from your fan with a voltmeter or test light. Check the connections to and from the fan. If you have a separate fan switch, make sure it is on and that there is power going in and coming out of it. Spin the fan blade by hand to determine if it spins freely. If the fan blade does not turn or does not spin freely, the motor might need cleaning or it might have a bad bearing. Also, the motor could have open or shorted windings. In this case, it would probably be more economical to purchase a new fan...Max

Trying to find a site where convicted felons can go to work?

my boyfriend is looking for a better job he has been on his job over one year. But he is a felon and its hard to find work

Trying to find a site where convicted felons can go to work?
I don't know of a site, but I would call his parole officer, past or present, for information. There may be charitable organizations that work with felons that have job lists, and the parole officer would know who they are.
Reply:parole officer or probation officer aren't going to be of much help in that dept believe me i have tried both and have never had any help from them Report Abuse

Reply:I work in a prison and there are numerous places to get a job. Many plants are subsidized by the government to employ ex inmates. You can also go to your local employment office and inform them and they can help you.
Reply:Ask yourself this.....

Why are YOU doing the research for his employment instead of him doing it himself?

If he is a felon, then he is lucky to have a job at all.

My advice is to be with someone who is on the right side of the law and you don't have to clean up after his messes....too many men out there with clean criminal records for any female to have to fool with that mess.
Reply:honestly, my best advice for a felon is to start your own business (a legal one). This way you dont have to rely on hiring practices, you are the one hiring yourself.

I cont find a job. I am a single mom want to work and i am an excellent worker with various skills. I had an addiction to meth recently and did a year in prison. My life just cant get back on track and i have considered suicide more than once. I feel helpless hopeless useless and really alone.

Help! I am depressed and cant find work. Any advice for a reformed felon?
I know that here in California, there is a list at the Employment Development Department that provides "felon friendly" employment agencies. You may want to try your local Employment Department and see if they have anything similar.

I have heard often that some employers sometimes prefer to hire someone with a felony because they usually tend to not want to return to prison and therefore can be trusted sometimes more than others to not steal from them or screw them over in othe ways.

Also, in California, the Employment Development Department will pay for an employee to be bonded once for free, up to a maximum amount that I'm not sure of, if an employer requests it from you. Being bonded is sort of like an insurance policy on you to protect the employer if you were to steal from them or whatever else. The employer could be reimbursed for any monetary loss.

Each state is different so check out what yours may offer.

GOOD LUCK!!!
Reply:I hope this will help you. I've always thought that if I ever lose everything I have, and no one would hire me, that if I had a broom, and went downtown, door to door and volunteered to sweep doorways, and did a good job, just for a handout, that it wouldn't be long before someone saw how much I wanted to work and they would hire me just from what they saw and my attitude. The job they hired me for probably wouldn't have anything to do with sweeping. A good attitude means so much.
Reply:listen to me mam never ever give up hope ok try temp agencies there has to be a company that will hire even if it doesnt pay much but its something you know what they say QUITTERS NEVER WIN AND WINNERS NEVER QUIT

Reply:Don't give up. I know someone who is only 21 and is dealing with the same thing. He couldn't find work for a long time because he was caught with marijuana at the age of 18 and charged with a felony. Finally, the college that he goes to hired him.

Try to find SOMETHING even if it isn't your dream job so that you can take care of your child. Do you happen to know anyone that has their own business? Any friends that can put in a good word for you at their job? Please do not take your own life. Think of your child. If he/she lost you, where would they be? Who would take care of them? I have considered suicide before but I always thought of my family and the damage that a tragedy like that could do to them. Don't give up, I know it's hard but something will work out eventually. Be open-minded about finding a job and don't think that any job is too embarrassing to do. Sometimes that can hinder a job search.
Reply:Don't give up. There are temp agencies that would give you temp assignments and eventually a job. It may take some time, but the point is that you are working.

Find the work done in moving a particle from the origin to x=4?

The force on a particle is described by 4x^3 + 2 at a point x along the x-axis. Find the work done in moving a particle from the origin to x=4.

Find the work done in moving a particle from the origin to x=4?
im going to explain this using calculus because it is easiest, if you dont know calculus then you can do this on your calculator by finding the area under the curve from 0 to 4

work is the area under the curve describing the force on a particle from the origin to 4, in this case

the integral of 4x^3+2 = x^4 + 2x

(4^4+2*4)-0 = 264

so the answer is 264 (joules if your using SI)

How can you find genuine work from home positions?

I am desperate to find some genuine work that I can do from home as I am housebound. I really do not want to continue to claim benefits and would love to get some independence. The problem is though where do you start and how do you know if a position is genuine. I am based in the UK. If anyone can help me then I will be very grateful. Thank you. Donna

How can you find genuine work from home positions?
The only genuine work is what you get from local companies directly through personal contact. You need to be thinking and finding out about 'teleworking' which is reputable and covers all the different ways people work legitimately from home. This is the website of the Telework Association, it is not a link to a scam like most of the other answers you have been given, I have a friend who has taught on some of their training courses:

http://www.tca.org.uk/

If you enjoy talking on the telephone, market research and marketing companies sometimes employ people to do telephone interview work from home, and they often advertise on the site above. If you think you might like to do something like this you can also contact market research companies directly yourself to see if they have anything going that you could do from home. There's a list of companies here:

http://www.theresearchbuyersguide.com/in...

This is a general information site which comes via a link from the Citizens' Advice Bureau, which looks quite helpful and warns you about all the scams, it doesn't have jobs but there is lots of other information:

http://www.homeworking.com/

Good luck.
Reply:This can actually be a good place to start. You will hopefully get some genuine answers from real people who are actually doing well in this. You can look into those, see if it is for you and then begin doing your research.Research is key. You can find out anything you need to know about a business on the internet. Find something you will enjoy doing and you think you can do. I think a lot of people get into businesses that are actually legit but that particular person wasn't able to make it work or was to lazy so they call it a scam. There are a lot of good opportunities but you are going to have to be willing to put in the effort to make it work. So figure out what you will like and go from there. Research fully before committing to anything. I have experience in this and would be happy to help. Email me anytime! Good Luck! :)

Almost anyone who actually makes enough money online to live off (including me) does it by selling something or offering some kind of service, unless they're working for a company. I run a few online stores just by using drop shipping and store templates. Some drop shippers make your store for you to so you don't have to deal with web design and all that.

Making money online isn't rocket science it's just a lot of work. I work around 5-7 hours a day just like anybody else with a few stores selling jewelry and clothes and make around $4k/month, but it's hard to make more than that because there's not enough hours in the day. Is it hard to find work as a web designer?

I am going to school for web design. I don't have any IT experience

in the working world? All I have is what I have learned. I can't seem to find even an entry level position in this field. What should I do?

Is it hard to find work as a web designer?
Since I am a webdesigner myself, I can answer this question.

In my area (Dallas, TX), it seems that everyone is looking for a webdesigner/developer. Also, there doesn't seem to be enough web designers compared to the amount of people who are looking for one.

Here's an idea: If you are freelancing, just find a small business that you think needs a website or needs a better website, and contact the business owner. You'll be surprised on the positive reaction a lot of people have when asking them. Your friends/family will also probably find jobs for you. Just network, and you will find plenty of people that need stuff done.

You don't need any IT experience to be a web designer. If you are going to school for web design, they should teach you everything you need to know. A *web designer* usually designs and codes the static page. A lot of webdesigners are more visually oriented people (sometimes ex-graphicdesigners) coming from a background of little or no IT experience. A webdeveloper codes the backend for websites with dynamic content (php, mysql, etc). Being a webdeveloper requires more IT experience and expertise.

At my school, they also teach php, mysql, javascript, asp, etc.. My title is a web designer, but I also have experience as a web developer.

The bottom line is if you have a good portfolio and are passionate about your work, you shouldn't have a trouble finding a job. It may take a while to find the job you want, so in the meantime, I suggest gaining more experience by freelancing. Also, if you haven't done so yet, I suggest creating a portfolio site and blog. On your blog, blog about problems you faced with css/html, and how you solved them. Blog about your interests. Blog about your personal life if you want. Blog about anything. The more entries you make, the more recognition you get (more results on google). If people like your blog, they will subscribe to it and comment on your articles. Your target audience on your blog should primarily be web designers and developers, not necessarily clients. Go crazy with your design, and gain even more recognition. Some of the biggest people in the industry are only big because of their blog. Have a link on your portfolio site to your blog so prospective clients can see it if they want. The clients may not be interested in the content of the blog, but if you have a killer design, they will still be interested in looking at the visual elements.
Reply:Freelance. There are lots of companies that need good websites. I design them too.
Reply:It can be hard to get your first job. Make sure you have graphics experience and then look for an internship or do some free work where you can publish a website or two to show your stuff.

Make sure you are good working with the Adobe tools and Dreamweaver.

There are jobs out there. I have hired these types of folks.
Reply:Refrences
Reply:It's very competative.

You MUST have experience. Get a volunteer position or internship and build a real-world portfolio. Without a portfolio, you don't stand a chance.
Reply:well you can try to study some IT work first may be you can, who knows??? just try and see...
Reply:Almost impossible.
Reply:Knock em out with your self knowledge, design a site to die for. if not, it is not your forte. give up. go through the front door, not the back one. Just do it. Entry level IS DESIGNING YOUR OWN SITE GET IT.....GOOD LUCK...
Reply:Well, freelance is more common. Other good chance is to open your own company and to start to develop for companies. Than you need a good marketing for your company.
Reply:It is almost impossible to find a job JUST a Web Designer. Most web design jobs include hosting and constant help on editing and such.

The competition for Web Design is very high at the current moment. Unless you have some kind of reputation of some kind, you will have a hard time looking for work on the net (try starting with local businesses/organizations to build up a portfolio).

I can't tell you that it gets easier as your portfolio becomes loaded with high-quality examples because it doesn't get easier.

Reply:I would suggest you find a product you would like to sell and then plug it into a well respected System. A system that can make money whilst you are building your business. A system that will take you step by step through the process of building a network of contacts and customers and promote your product at the same time.

You can become an affiliate for many products on the Internet ranging from things like the lottery to physical goods. It all depends on what takes your fancy. When you sell your product using the right framework success is made that much easier.

I have wasted a lot of time trying to sell products directly. It was only when I adopted a proper system did things start to pay off. You see, people won't buy off you if..

a) They don't know you - how can they trust you!

b) They don't know you are there - Remember setting up a site on the Internet is like opening a shop in the desert. You very rarely get walk in traffic.

But a good system will answer these problems and set you off in the right direction from the word go.
Reply:Know who you’re dealing with. The company may not be offering to employ you directly, only to sell you training and materials and to find customers for your work. Don’t believe that you can make big profits easily. Operating a home-based business is just like any other business – it requires hard work, skill, good products or services, and time to make a profit. Be cautious about emails offering work-at-home opportunities. Many unsolicited emails are fraudulent. Get all the details before you pay. A legitimate company will be happy to give you information about exactly what you will be doing and for whom. Find out if there is really a market for your work. Claims that there are customers for work such as medical billing and craft making may not be true. If the company says it has customers waiting, ask who they are and contact them to confirm. You can also ask likely customers in your area (such as doctors for medical billing services) if they actually employ people to do that work from home. Get references for other people who are doing the work. Ask them if the company kept its promises. Be aware of legal requirements. To do some types of work, such as medical billing, you may need a license or certificate. Check with your state attorney general’s office. Ask your local zoning board if there are any restrictions on operating a business from your home. Some types of work cannot be done at home under federal law. Look for the nearest U.S. Department of Labor in the government listings of your phone book. Know the refund policy. If you have to buy equipment or supplies, ask whether and under what circumstances you can return them for a refund. Beware of the old “envelope stuffing” scheme. In this classic scam, instead of getting materials to send out on behalf of a company, you get instructions to place an ad like the one you saw, asking people to send you money for information about working at home. This is an illegal pyramid scheme because there is no real product or service being offered. You won’t get rich, and you could be prosecuted for fraud. Be wary of offers to send you an “advance” on your “pay.” Some con artists use this ploy to build trust and get money from your bank. They send you a check for part of your first month’s “pay.” You deposit it, and the bank tells you the check has cleared because the normal time has passed to be notified that checks have bounced. Then the crook contacts you to say that you were mistakenly paid the wrong amount or that you need to return a portion of the payment for some other reason. After you send the money back, the check that you deposited finally bounces because it turned out to be an elaborate fake. Now the crooks have your payment, and you’re left owing your bank the amount that you withdrew.

Do your own research about work-at-home opportunities. The “Work-At-Home Sourcebook” and other resources that may be available in your local library provide good advice and lists of legitimate companies that hire people to work for them at home. You may discover that these companies hire only local people and that there is nothing available in your area.

If you need advice about an Internet or telemarketing solicitation, or you want to report a possible scam, use the Online Reporting Form http://www.fraud.org/info/repoform.htm or call the NFIC hotline at 1-800-876-7060.
Reply:Stay away from Cash Create and other survey Web sites!

It's a waste of time and will cause you unhappiness.

If you choose to get suckered in and sign up to take surveys and receive free trials considered you were warned. How do you find real work or internet commutig jobs, or real work from home jobs?

I enjoy computers and have a knowledge of proffesional typing, graphics, promotional materials, etc, I am curious how you find honest work from home not stuffing envelopes or assembling crappy products. Any help on various fields would be very appreciated

How do you find real work or internet commutig jobs, or real work from home jobs?
Most people who work at home and are successful are doing one of two things - getting paid a commission on everyone they convince to join the program (also known as MLM or pyramid plans) OR they have their own business. Your own business is something you create yourself, not find on the internet. You create it based on your skills, your passions not on what someone else tells you is the GREATEST thing going.

If you are looking at one of the endless "opportunities" out there be careful - most are scams. Here are a few questions you should ask to help figure out if the one you are looking at is for real or not.

Legitimate work-at-home program should tell you - in writing - what's involved in the program they are selling. Here are some questions you might ask:

* What tasks will I have to perform? (Ask the program to list every step of the job.)

* Will I be paid a salary or will my pay be based on commission?

* Who will pay me?

* When will I get my first paycheck?

* What is the total cost of the work-at-home program, including supplies, equipment and membership fees?

* What will I get for my money?

Ant medical apps, where did you find work experience - and does it have to be clinical?

Hi - Im finding it quite hard to find medical work experience. Local GPs wont have me, so apllied for jobs in NHS, but their all clerical. Do you think working in a hospital, even as ward clerk is sufficent?

Also I was interested in doing admin duty at a substance abuse place - do you think this would benefit my application (im not doing it purely to look good on a app, but I want to keep it relevant(

Ant medical apps, where did you find work experience - and does it have to be clinical?
Hi my name is Mike, and after reading your question thought I might put this your way.

I am a First Responder in my home town, and have been recruited and trained by the Ambulance Service to respond to 999 life threatening calls. I know these schemes are springing up all over the country so there may be one in your area, you will come across all sorts of medical emergencies that require you skills so give it a go, let me know how you got on.

Any ideas where I can find volunteer work in my community?

I recently got back from a church mission trip in another state where we helped the homeless and I am inspired to continue the same type of work in my home area...any ideas where I can find where help is needed? I have no idea where to start! Thanks!

Any ideas where I can find volunteer work in my community?
Perhaps you should join the sites I am involved with :

idealist.org

and

volunteermatch.com

You fill out information about your location and purpose. Then they find volunteer work in your area or where you choose to go.
Reply:Hmm ^^ I'd first like to say that I'm glad that the Missionary trip has inspired you to make a difference, that's nice ^__^. I'm glad to see someone willing to help others in the area. I got a whole list of things you can do--

1. Check your school clubs (when they get back to school) to see if there are any interested in helping the community. I'm sure there can be some. (For helping homeless there may be some).

2. The community center (if your area has one, usually cities and towns have some) may have some volunteer opportunities. Check there ^__^ (I know its not helping homeless...but i'm just listing things to do for community)

3. Churches are also wonderful places to find volunteer opportunities. I'd talk with a priest or any other person who works there- nun or just someone who helps organize activities. Usually, from my interactions with churches (I'm a Catholic), Churches are very eager for volunteers and many times Churches do participate in helping those who are poor. Sometimes Churches have social justice things too. I'd suggest you speak with someone from Church. ^^

4. Food sources- like food banks and homeless shelters are also good places to do volunteering at. You could help hand out food to those who are hungry or cook food.

5. You could try governmental stuff too. I don't know how old you are... but I think its good at any age to volunteer with governmental groups who are interested in combating poverty. Sometimes cities (government of cities- local ones) will have task boards or some kind of focus on lowering poverty and homelessness. See if you can volunteer for them.

6. There are also activist groups who fight poverty too. See if you can volunteer.

Just look around. ^^ Check out idealist.org for nonprofit jobs.
Reply:You could try by going to local churches and asking about programs that they have. Some churches have programs and some don't. Then there are just certain families in churches that do it on their own. You could ask the churches if they know of any people doing it that way. Also try your town's welcome center. If it's anything like our's then you should find alot of information on exactly what you are looking for. Welcome centers like to inform tourists about everything their town has to offer. Such as groups and organizations such as what you are looking for and many others. Good Luck!!!!
Reply:Contact your local Kiwanis club or Lions club. Both service organizations do marvelous volunteer work with young children and needy people in their communities. And there's almost always a club, even in the smallest communities. -RKO- 07/18/08

I'm moving to Alaska and want to find work before I get there?

I'm sick of living an ordinary life and have decided to move to Alaska. I'm a 21 year old guy with no real attachments who is looking for a bit of adventure.

Anyways I am interested in finding some kind of heavy labor work in Alaska before I actually get there.

I'm really interested in working as an offshore seafood processor, or maybe something in oil or timber.

I'm really looking for a comany that will pay for my trip either from VA or Seattle and give me a place to live when I get there.

If your lucky you can hook up with a crew of a fishing vessel but think long and hard about that what you can do is research the web for the chamber of commerce in the town you have decided to relocate to and find out what the local paper is and read the want adds if there are slim pickins there try another town/city

Where can I find Volunteer work with Conservation?

I am looking for more volunteer work, domestic or Int'l, where I can work with the conservation of a species. Anyone have any ideas where I can find some volunteer work?

Where can I find Volunteer work with Conservation?
The source below is for employment -- I've a strong admiration for this group, having encountered them on the trail a number of times -- but volunteer opportunities abound. Many areas do a yearly training program, and teach you the basics about an area so you can become a docent.

Since you didn't specify where you are, just start by checking at local parks or reserves that interest you to see if they have a program that suits you. I've been a volunteer for years, and it led to my becoming employed in the field, which worked for me!

Good luck.

What is the best way to find permanant work and stop temping?

I currently work through a temporary employment agency. I would like to find a permanant job and stop temping, but for some reason no companies have seemed interested in somebody who does temp work. What can I do?

What is the best way to find permanant work and stop temping?
I disagree with you. You can try a permanent employment agency but from my vast experience dealing with people, companies who hire temps are happy to observe them for prospective full time jobs.

You can always start by not treating your temporary jobs as such. So often temps don't adhere to the companies' protocols and dress codes. They show a lack of interest beyond gettting their time sheets signed at the end of the week and observance of that kind of behaviour is always noted.

Show that you care, be prompt, be interested in learning new skills and that you take a serious interest in the company(ies) by reading and gathering information about them. Let the head of personnel know that you are interested in a full time position and apply for any position that you may be suited for. Ask questions but don't be a pest.

Let me let in you in on a secret. I have much work experience, education and skills so I can share this with you. In 1973 we were in a deep recession in NYC and I was forced to work as a temp. I worked for a respected Temp Agency and within 2 weeks at 3 different companies I was offered a full time job. I started at a Nationwide Car Rental Company, then I went on to a well known Cosmetics and Fragrance Company and finally I ended up at a top Black Fashion %26amp; Beauty Magazine where I was so happy that when the offer came I jumped at it. By the time I left, I was Asst. Controller.

Currently, I earn substantial income as a permanent part-timer at a construction company. I started with 2 days per week at $15. an hr. for 6 hours per day (that was not easy for me, I am in the $50 plus per hr. range) but I needed some steady work and income because I had just started a new home business and the income was nominal at the time. I was hired to file and answer phones. Now I take care of 3 executives and I am well paid. I took the time to get involved, learnt all I could on my own about the company and the industry, so when I asked for more hours, responsibilites and money, I made a good presentation and I got it.

I hope my experince and counsel helps.
Reply:There are a few things you could do:

1. Find out if the temp agency you work for offers any temp-to-hire positions. If they don't, you may want to look for a temp agency that does.

2. Learn to market and sell your skills and qualifications. What sets you apart from others and makes you a good hire?

3. Have confidence! Thinking that you will get something you want is about 75% of the battle. Read some self-improvement books (I highly recommend Dale Carnegie's "How to Win Friends and Influence People" - check it out from your local library).

4. Don't give up! Just taking action will help you learn and grow. You may not get some of the jobs you interview for, but you will have the experience of the interview and can work to get better each time.

Best wishes to your success,

Kristen

How do I find subcontracting work as a residential/commercial cleaner in Atlanta?

I started a new cleaning business and cannot find any work. I sent out proposals to builders, and haven't received any response. I'm more interested in new construction cleans, but will clean foreclosures or any houses or buildings.

How do I find subcontracting work as a residential/commercial cleaner in Atlanta?
You need to make a friend. Find some new construction, almost finished and then find out who the general contractor is.

Then make a phone call and say, "Hi, I'm ______ with "CLives New Construction Cleaning service. We are a new business serving the Metro Atlanta Area and all its surrounding counties and I wold like to offer my services for free including chemicals for one of your new construction sites to introduce ourselves to the industry."

Then, if they bite, do a bang up professional job. Treat it like you are Scarface and dust in the corners are your enemy. "Say hello to my little frien'!"

Do that to several companies. Then even if they don't hire you you can say, "I just finised doing a Job for Pope and Sons and I'm sure they were pleased with our work, you can call them." and it gives you references.

I knew a teenaged boy who did this with window cleaning and came out of his first week with over $500 and his business has grown and he's an employer now.

Plus as a small business you can find government contracts to clean new construction for government buildings. They are always rebuilding and renovating. Watch the newspaper for "(Government Agency) Accepting Bids for . . . ." and bid those packets. You have a good chance of getting that job!

God Bless

Are there websites or companies that offer legitimate work at home chances without asking for money or trials? I have done some research and all I can find are scams that take your money.

Where can I find legitimate work at home opportunities?
Hi Holly,

A JOB should have an application process, interview process and is not something you should have to PAY for or just fill in your name, email address, etc. to 'join'.

If you live in the US and are interested in virtual assistant type jobs, I will be glad to send you a link to some legit sites. I would HIGHLY recommend you avoid these posts of "free to join" offers. They aren't JOBS, and very rarely do you make any significant money for the time spent.

You have a number of options-and med billing from home is a great way to go. You can hook up with a billing company, strart your own, completely freelance (if you know any drs. with smaller offices who would be interested) or try the temp agencies. How to find work in Alaska?

I'm from the lower 48 states and I'm hoping to find work in Alaska. Does anybody know of any companies who provide transportation, housing, etc.? I've heard some fishing companies do this. . . Help is well appreciated.

How to find work in Alaska?
Alaska is not a continent. Its a STATE. It's not much colder than Montana or Wisconsin. I live in the "Golden Heart" of Alaska. Fairbanks. Its smack dab in the center.

As for jobs, it depends on where you are thinking. There is fishing charters off the coast, construction in the interior. This site http://www.alaskajobfinder.com/ is probably your best bet. They specialize in the Alaska fishing industry, featuring such jobs as deckhand jobs, cannery jobs, onshore and offshore processing jobs, and aquaculture jobs.

There is a new business opportunity that just started a couple of months ago but has been in the works for over 3 years. It works with Ebay so you know it is legit. Ebay is a multi Billion dollar business and you now have the opportunity to be apart of that. Doesn't cost much like a lot of home businesses only $29 per month. You earn up to $35 per new customer and up to 75% in commissions from Ebay just by giving out Free software. When they use the software your Ebay affiliate ID is embedded in the software and you get the commission - 100% of it. Plus 5 more ways to make money. http://www.mymarketinggenie.com/ultimate...

I see this as being one of the next big home businesses since it is one of the first that uses Ebay. Most home businesses only last a couple of years but with the backing of Ebay I don't see how anyone wouldn't join this opportunity. I am already doing well making more money than the $29 so already in profit. I am a titanium powerseller so I let everyone know about the new free software and then I get paid anytime they buy something from Ebay even if it isn't from me. Here is the free software so you can check it out: http://www.myshoppinggenie.com/ultimatep...

I recently purchased a start-up business kit from http://www.MyTicketBiz.com. I have been happy with it. I paid just over $150 for it. They taught me how to become a ticket broker for concert and sporting events. There is good money in it. I am not spending enough time with it to make tons, but I brought in over $400 last month doing it part time. The best thing they give you is a weekly event listing and presale passwords.

If being a ticket broker has no interest to you, then look into something else. If it does, this is a good place. What I like best is there is value and no one is asking for any more money yet they still provide you data to run your business.

I tried over 18 home businesses in the course of 3 years so please forgive the length of this post but you will find it very informative. Learn from my mistakes! Also make sure to read all the way to the bottom because I have included a list of the top 10 work at home scams. I am a mother of two little girls who are actually tugging on my arm as I write this so I will try to be brief. Many people are looking for work from home companies. All the scams definitely create a big problem but also, there is a problem of people misunderstanding the difference between work from home "jobs" and work from home opportunities. There really are not work from home “jobs”. To get that you have to start working for a company in their offices first, then they MAY allow you to take the job home.

Most of the work from home opportunities that are legitimate offers are not an hourly pay type job. They are business opportunities that help you in starting your own business from your home. What you should do first is to decide if you are simply looking for an hourly rate type job or if you are looking for more of an opportunity for additional income such as what you would make in your own business being your own boss from home. Small home businesses have some small costs involved, less than $500 to start is reasonable and I would stay away from those wanting $1000-$5000. It doesn’t cost that much to start and run a home business so you shouldn’t pay it.

If you are coming across places that say free then I would RUN don’t walk the other way! They never are. I tried them many a times and 3 weeks later I had to buy this and 6 weeks later that. After 6 months these “free businesses” had cost me over $800 on average.

After trying 18 things I work about 18-25 hours per week for a National Medical Benefits Company. This is a nationally known and reputable home business which is what you need to make sure you are looking for. I have been with the company almost a year and a half now and I make over $3500 a month! In your first month, depending on how many hours you can work, I have seen people make anywhere from $500 to over $2500. And your income will increase each month because you get paid residual income as well.

The best part is they have 401(k), direct deposit, life insurance and a benefits package most of which you get from day one. In addition, there are no products, no hard selling or pushing, no cold calling, no home parties and no telemarketing! That was VERY important to me. I absolutely love working with them and I can't believe I am making what I am making and in so few hours per week. The neat thing is there are other people on your team that you work with so you are never alone. You have great team support and you get to know the other people on your team pretty well.

I was a bit apprehensive at first because I know a lot of companies are not legit but this company is the number one National Medical Benefits Company in the US. They are a member of the US Chamber of Commerce, and the National Association of Dental Plans and the owner of the company actually sits on the board of The Consumer Health Alliance to which we are also members. Also they were featured in “The New York Times”, “Wall Street Journal” “Time Magazine” “American Medical Review” and even in the May 2008 issue of “Parents Magazine”. Even “60 Minutes” did a big special on this home based business.

Even more then all this is they are accepted at over 100,000 retailers nationwide. These are fortune 500 companies like Sears, Target, K-mart, Rite Aid, CVS, Wal-mart, Publix and more. These companies would never work with a company that was anything less than reputable.

TOP 10 WORK AT HOME SCAMS:

10. Craft Assembly

This scam encourages you to assemble toys, dolls, or other craft projects at home with the promise of high per-piece rates. All you have to do is pay a fee up-front for the starter kit... which includes instructions and parts. Sounds good? Well, once you finish assembling your first batch of crafts, you'll be told by the company that they "don't meet our specifications." No matter what you won’t get paid.

9. Medical Billing

In this scam, you pay $300-$900 for everything (supposedly) you need to start your own medical billing service at home. You're promised state-of-the-art medical billing software, as well as a list of potential clients in your area.

What you're not told is that most medical clinics process their own bills, or outsource the processing to firms, not individuals. Your software may not meet their specifications, and often the lists of "potential clients" are outdated or just plain wrong.

8. Email/Rebate Processing

This is a twist on the classic "envelope stuffing scam" (see #1 below). For a low price ($50?) you can become a "highly-paid" email processor working "from the comfort of your own home."

Now... what do you suppose an email processor does? If you have visions of forwarding or editing emails, forget it. What you get for your money are instructions on spamming the same ad you responded to in newsgroups and Web forums!

7. "A List of Companies Looking for Home workers!"

In this one, you pay a small fee for a list of companies looking for home workers just like you. The only problem is that the list is usually a generic list of companies, companies that don't take home workers, or companies that may have accepted home workers long, long ago.

6. "Just Call This 1-900 Number For More Information..."

Not much to say here. Don’t Call!

5. Typing At Home / Data Entry

Here's how it works: After sending the fee to the scammer for "more information," you receive a disk and printed information that tells you to place home typist ads and sell copies of the disk to the suckers who reply to you. Like #8, this scam tries to turn you into a scammer!

4. "Turn Your Computer Into a Money-Making Machine!"

Well, this one's at least half-true. To be completely true, it should read: "Turn your computer into a money-making machine... for scammers!"

This is much the same scam as #5, above. Once you pay your money, you'll be sent instructions on how to place ads and pull in suckers to "turn their computers into money-making machines."

3. Pyramid Schemes (this is NOT the same as Multi-Level Marketing MLM)

If you've heard of network marketing (like Amway, Mary Kay or Pampered Chef), then you know that there are legitimate MLM businesses based on agents selling products or services.

The problem arises when there is no legitimate product or service at all and it is all about finding new recruits and not only can you lose all your money, but you can be charged with fraud, too!

2. Chain Letters/Emails ("Make Money Fast")

They promise that all you have to do is send the email along plus some money by mail to the top names on the list, then add your name to the bottom... and one day you'll be a millionaire.

Actually, the only thing you might be one day is prosecuted for fraud. This is a classic pyramid scheme.

1. Envelope Stuffing

This is THE classic work-at-home scam. It's been around since the U.S. Depression of the 1920s and 1930s, and it's moved onto the Internet like a cockroach you just can't eliminate.

There are several variations, but here's a sample: Much like #5 and #4 above, you are promised to be paid $1-2 for every envelope you stuff. All you have to do is send money and you're guaranteed "up to 1,000 envelopes a week that you can stuff... with postage and address already affixed!"

When you send your money, you get a short manual with flyer templates you're supposed to put up around town, advertising yet another harebrained work-from-home scheme.

SO that’s the top 10.

Please beware of these scams. There are some legit home businesses out there so be careful. Look for companies in business over 10 years. Look for companies with a needed product or service, something you would be proud to represent. Look for companies that have a national reputation and are members of the US Chamber of Commerce.

Also, don't be hung up on the BBB either. Did you know, common misconception here, that the BBB is NOT a government regulated agency? That in fact, they are local independently owned franchises where anyone, who pays the right price, can be a member in “good standing”. This is true!

As for those of you who say…..”I want to work from home but I don’t want to have to pay for anything”. Well, that’s great! But it will never happen. Let’s be honest, there is no such thing as a free lunch. As we talked about above there is a difference between a job and a business. You should NEVER have to pay for a job….but again…chances of finding a home job are about 3%. At any rate, if it is a true honest home business you need to expect to pay….Mr. Walt Disney didn’t start the Disney empire “without paying for anything”. Neither did Mr. Sam Walton, owner of Wal-Mart.

How can i find work in film?
Hi,

The problem is always experience, because education is nothing if you can't apply that knowledge.

The best way to startoff is to intern at a reputable business. While you aren't being paid, you're learning a great deal of practical working knowledge while having the ability to post it in your resume.

Best of luck!

Where can i find legitimate work at home opportunities?

I am really interested in finding an online opportunity where i can work from home and earn a resonable income. I've been reserching but i always find sites that either sound too good to be true or ask for money. Can someone help? I'm not looking for a get rich quick scam. I just want something to do at home that works around my schedule and that will bring in an extra income at home.

Where can i find legitimate work at home opportunities?
If minimum wage is a sufficient amount of income for you, because that's all you will get working a home "job" online or offline. Companies use people to work at home and not have to pay propper salaries because their traveling expenses are gone. If you think about the cost of living, house payments (or rent in some cases) food, utilities, still needing gas to get to the stores and other activities, car payments, toiletries etc etc. A minimum wage job does not cut anything.

If you really want to work from home and make a sufficient amount of income, I suggest you start your own home based business. Plenty of different things from Child Daycare Centers, Telecommunications (don't get it confused between telemarketing and telecommuting because it's far different then that), Plumbing, catering, scrapbooking, Health, Candles, travel agents, etc etc.

The income opportunity is incredible in home based business. Same opportunities as traditional business except you don't have all the overhead that the traditional businesses acquire. You just need to find one that you'd enjoy getting involved in and one that has a great compensation plan. Most home based business cost under $500. Some cost more depending on what it is you want to do.

I don't know what you like to do, so I can only tell you what my husband and I started over six years ago and point you out to some others to take a look at. Ours well supports our family of six. We have four children ages 10, 6, 3 and 1. It is also becoming a major funding source for non-profit organizations.

We got involved in the telecommunications industry with a world wide company that's over 15 years old. We've been featured in several magazines Inc 500 rated us the 22nd fastest growing company. They offer services that people use every day and pay for anyway, but now they can have a lower cost. Services such as local and long distance phones, Internet, digital phones, video phones (you can see the person your taking to live)VOIP, Satellite TV, and all the major cellular phone companies like Verizon, AT%26amp;T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Alltell, Nextell etc. have partnered up with them too.

How many people do you know, or know of, that uses one or more of these services? How would you feel if you could save people money on services that they're already using? Every time they pay their bills each month, you make a percentage off these bills every single month. Huge income opportunity. It's incredible how much money is involved in this industry.

I also created a blog on my 360 page on home based business's. There's over half a dozen different ones to take a look at. Your more then welcome to browse through them for some ideas.

Reply:Sometimes, in order to make money, it takes money. I can not think of a single business that you can start up at absolutely no cost, and start out with something.

I work from home, I love what I do and I work around my children's schedules. I work with a Discount Health %26amp; Dental Benefit Company, the largest in the nation. I simply offer our benefit plans to people who are interested in saving money on their healthcare costs. I also provide information about our work at home opportunities. It is a service that is truly needed by millions of people. I did not become wealthy overnight, however, I was able to start earning right away, and I have great residual income each month. Reply:1. WelI I actually take surveys for cash. And yes they do pay as long as you know the good ones. I have some free survey sites that are very reliable just check out my profile by clicking my name or email me for them. I only give sites that I've been paid by so you won't get scammed. They're all reliable and I've never had a problem with them. (I've been doing them for a year now) The best part is that anyone can do them and they're easy. You won't get rich but they definitely help with bills :)

2. Btw a lot of the ones above are spammers and I wouldn't trust them

They have a good list of legitimate companies that hire telecommuters in their directory too. You should never pay a fee to get a job! Legitimate companies will not ask for a fee for registration or materials. Good luck!
Reply:You may want to consider Affiliate Marketing. There literally 1000's of companies looking for individuals to market their products online.
