I'm a college student with limited job experience. How do I find work?

I'm a college student but since I spent so much time in class I haven't been able to work. However, this year my bills are piling up, I need a job ASAP. However, I lack experience and I have few references. Are there any ways for me to find work (I live in NYC)?

You need to show those things that you have done in a format that shows the qualities you will need in a job. For example, if you were involved in school organizations, you can present things like leadership, project management, responsibility, etc. If you haven't even been in organizations, have you done class projects you could highlight, which would show some of these characteristics?
Reply:During the school year you get a part-time job working at a restaurant, bookstore, grocery store, etc. You could also check with locally owned and operated businesses (vet's offices, law firms, dental offices, etc.). If there are any state parks nearby check to see if they have any job openings. Also, there is this thing called Student Temporary Employment Program (STEP) and Student Career Employment Program (SCEP). The first link talks about it. You can google them and find out more. There is also The Student Conservation Association. You can find internships that last anywhere from 3 months to 12 months in length. You can find an internship in any state in the US. The second link will help you with that.





As far as references, you can use professors that know you fairly well. Also, you can use a faculty or staff member associated with a club, or organization . That is, if you have participated in the club or organization.
Reply:What you need is a part time job at a restaurant. Don't worry if you knock on enough doors someone will hire you. Be willing to take just about any job as long as they pay and its legal. And list your professors down as references...uhg the ones you got A's in or were especially nice. Chances are they will be too intimidated to call a college prof.
Reply:I would try to find a part-time job that doesn't require any experience and isn't too physically or mentally taxing. Like being a cashier at a grocery store, clothing store, or walmart.
Reply:Try finding a job on campus because they tend to be very flexible. Try your school's bookstore (save money on textbooks :D) or anywhere else around the school and you don't always need references of work experience (definitely not in the bookstore) Good luck :)
