A 450-g block is dropped onto a vertical spring with spring constant k =240.0 N/m. The block becomes attached to the spring, and the spring compresses 50.0 cm before momentarily stopping. While the spring is being compressed, what work is done on the block by its weight?

a) Work done by the block = m*g*(h2-h1)


W = m*g*(50 cm)





b) KE = PE


1/2*m*v^2 = m*g*(h2-h1)


v = sqrt(2*g*(h2-h1))





c) If the speed is doubled, the spring compress by a factor of 4.
