My partner and I are considering spending 6 - 12 months in South America and are wondering if it's possible to get work or if it's best just to go for a holiday.
How easy is it for an Australian to find work in Argentina/other parts of South America?
Just like Oz, it's very difficult for a traveler to work 'legally' but not impossible. I travel for extended periods of time and have learned over the years that there is often a shadow economy and being aware of that I have found ways to support myself almost anywhere I go.It is not particularly hard to find work except in the most depressed countries but you 'generally' don't make very much money or in other cases no money if you are trading your time for goods and/or services. Obviously in a Spanish speaking country it should go without saying that you 'usually' need to be proficient in the language.

Reply:You could find work as an English teacher, as most native speakers do. Many people will pay cash in hand for private tuition/conversation sessions so you can get away with not having a work permit or speaking Spanish. The money might not be great to international standards but it will definitely help you get by whilst staying over there!
