What is the best way to find work in a Non Profit Organization?

I am a senior in college as a Business student. I really want to do something for a Non Profilt organization, either domestic or abroad. I was thinking some kind of fund raising, but I am not sure how to get started. This is not the kind of position you see on CareerBuilder or Monster...

I realize working for a Non Profit may not pay much, but I really want to enjoy what I do and feel like I am doing some good. I really need to try to pull around $40,000 a year to supplement my husband's income and be sure I can afford to pay back my $40,000 in student loans I have accumulated. Any suggestions?

What is the best way to find work in a Non Profit Organization?
Most non-profits post jobs just like for-profit. In many cases, you will not even know they are non-profits or you might assume they are and find out they are not.

Decide which organizations interest you. Call them. Find out who the HR manager is. Find out if they have any openings. Do your research. Send a resume with a cover letter explaining what you can do that matches their open positions.
Reply:your local church, local food pantries, check newspapers and telephone book. some food pantries pay a small amount to have someone come in to stock shelves
Reply:Find a Non Profit organization that you believe in and give them a call or drop in with your resume. Good luck.
Reply:Before you graduate you should consider volunteering at some Non Profit's to see if you like it. They always need help even if it is just for an event or a project. Here is a nice page from the Gates Foundation that has a bunch of links about volunteering.

Volunteering could also open up some career opportunities for you. Good luck!
Reply:You have the opportunity to work with Non Profits in our consumer direct marketing company. You will be able to make far more than the $40,000 that you make reference to. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Our company grossed over $700,000,000 last year. Will You Join Us?

GOOD LUCK.

Reply:With a BA or BS, you should expect to make about $40K (+- $10K) working in the private sector. You're not likely to get a $40K NFP job, right out of school. Expect salaries to be under $30K.

That said, finding these jobs often means pounding the pavement. Call up non-profits and ask them if they are accepting resumes. Many of the bigger NFP organizations have job postings on their web sites or will accept resume that way.
