Do you prefer to work according to deadlines or do you find you work better with a more flexible schedule?

This has less to do with personal preference as it does with personal productivity. In which setting do you find you are more productive in your work, the faster-paced setting or the more laidback one?

Do you prefer to work according to deadlines or do you find you work better with a more flexible schedule?
I hate having deadlines! That is the reason I chose to own my own business. I answer to nobody but myself, and I'm compensated well. This is the happiest I've ever been in my life!! There's no backstabbing in my company!!
Reply:I like deadlines. I accomplish more. I'm very goal oriented so this helps me get done what I need to get done in time to reach my next goal.
Reply:I've always found I get more done with deadlines, but they can't be to rigid, otherwise I get too stressed out.
Reply:i would prefer the flexible schedule, but knowing how i work, a fixed schedule would result in a more productive me. i have taken classes 'independent study', and most of the 'study' gets done at the last minute!

i don't particularly care for the rigidity of a set schedule, but in my line of work (restaurant), it's a necessity i'm afraid.

HA! opalescent, that's me!
Reply:They say there are two kinds of persona - One who glows in pressure and the other who shrinks.

Personally, I deliver better with pressure. Deadlines keep anyone on toes to be productive. Flexible schedules makes a person relaxed. But this the general theory which does not apply to everyone.

Take a disciplined and neurotic person, no matter who flexible the schedule is, he would still keep up his timings.

Take the other extreme, the hyper cools!, no matter how strict the rules are, he always finds a way to bend them.
Reply:If it weren't for deadlines I wouldn't get anything done.

I do prefer advance warning though so that I can plan out my project. I try to give myself plenty of time so that I complete it with some level of competency.
Reply:I am an easy going kind of person and I like a flexible schedule, but if you are talking paperwork its best if I have a due date. If I have a list of things to do each day it gets done. If I finish said list Ill find something that needs to be done. Im not gonna sit and do nothing. So for some jobs flexible works for me. At the moment both of my jobs can be fast paced and when that is the case and Im all scheduled out I excell. I dont know if I have answered your question or not! Deadlines tend to work slightly better than Flexibility for me because I have been known to procrastinate.
Reply:Deadlines..Pressure keeps you from slacking.
Reply:i need the deadline to be far away so i can postpone it for awhile or do a little at a time, but if there is no deadline i do nothing.
Reply:I prefer to have deadlines. If I don't have them, I get lazy! I tend to put things off and set things aside. Deadlines give me a set of priorities to work by, which helps me immensely.
Reply:Deadlines. I work much harder and am more focussed when I hae a deadline. When I don't have one, I know that I can stop what I'm doing, to work on something else that needs doing, or take a break, orgo get lunch...whe I'm on a deadline I don't need to take a break, I need to get my project done.
Reply:Deadline or no deadline, you always do the best that you can do and do it style...
