Fresh out of college with a degree in business, would it be difficult to find work if I had little to none experience in the actual field of business?
I heard a friend of a relative had a college degree and is working the floor at a Lowes. I don't really know his/her story but that's kind of depressing to me.
Is it true that it's hard to find work with college degree but no experience?
It is absolutely imperative that you have working experience when graduating in the form of an internship or student activities (clubs, etc.). One of the best ways to work for a specific company is to intern with them.
Reply:I WILL TELL YOU IT IS HARD TO FIND THE JOB YOU WANT STRAIGHT OUT OF COLLEGE WITHOUT EXPERIENCE. BEFORE I GRADUATED I HAD A PRETTY GOOD JOB SO I STAYED THERE UNTIL I COULD FIND SOMETHING BETTER.
I GRADUATED IN 2004 WITH MY BBA IN HR MANAGEMENT. IT WASN'T HARD TO FIND A JOB, BUT I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO GET A POSITION IN HR BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF EXPERIENCE. SO I STILL HAVE A DECENT PAYING JOB, BUT ITS JUST NOT WHAT I WANT TO DO. I HAD A LITTLE EXPERIENCE IN HR, BUT NOT ENOUGH TO BE VERY COMPETITIVE.
SO IN SHORT, YOU MAY IN END WORKING A JOB YOU DON'T LIKE TO SUPPORT YOURSELF UNTIL YOU CAN GET THE POSITION YOU WANT.
I HAVE HAD SOME VERY PROMISING INTERVIEWS , AND 3 YEARS LATER I THINK I WILL FINALLY BE GETTING THAT DREAM JOB. I WILL KEEP YOU POSTED.
Reply:.It isn't true at all. Your friend needs work and isn't looking at all. Why does your relative's friend working at Lowes with a college degree? he/she was suppose to intern. Have 2 internships if you have to. Internships will equal at least a year of experience. Talk to people you know. They might have an opening regarding your college major. Good luck.
Reply:I think it just takes longer to find an entry level position in your desired field right out of college. Most people expect to find one in a lot less time than it actually takes - and end up working at Lowes.
Reply:well it depends. i think if u have a specialty ,it's not too hard.'cause u have to learn from the beginning.and there are Co. who employ gruduates. good luck
Reply:Hey, Chris.
I'm also a Chris, and with my bachelors in art with a studio emphasis, I move boxes at a UPS hub. It's not glamorous, but it makes up for it by not paying very well.
I knew what I was getting into, being an art major and all. I've heard that business majors are more for starting your own business.
If you don't mind my asking, what do you guys learn in business school? Feel free to message me through this, or e-mail me at geeloeeloee@yahoo.com.
I guess this answer is, at best, a little "I understand" moral support.
Reply:If you must work, there's no place like home!
